Finally ! 2005 Glenn Smith finally broke through for an historic win. Just as Tiger did in his first Masters, Glenn blew the field away with a dazzling display of shot making. Not only did he make the Birdies but he also got himself out of trouble every time. A record tournament score was achieved (74 points) which was a stunning effort considering rain shortened the first day to 14 holes. Glenn has surely now taken the mantle from Sean Brindle as the perennial favourite. Tim Roebuck achieved an amazing fall from grace in taking out the Chopper for 2005. Considering Tim won in 2002 and lost in a play off in 2003 (2004 washed-out) this was a big surprise. Less of a surprise was Jason Brouwers missing the Chopper by only 1 Point. Mark Peters was the surprise 2nd place holder after day 1 and earned himself in the top seeded group. Marty Roebuck had a stunning day at Horizons which saw him achieve the lofty levels of 2nd place overall. If Glenn had not hit that rare vein of form, it might have been Marty's year. Long Drive winners were Tony Wright (NB) and Tim Roebuck (HOR). Near Pin winners were Glenn Smith and Steve Hutchesson (NB), Kel Smith and Greg Wright (HOR). Pair’s winners were Glenn Smith and Kel Smith (NB), Marty Roebuck and Peter Hughes (HOR). Steve Hutchesson won the overall skins with 14.25. The entertainment returned to the roots of the local Chinese Restaurant. We are all still trying to work out how 12 guys ate $800 of cheap Chinese food in a couple of hours. Plenty of pool was also played, of course. |
